Drawing on the ancient spiritual devotion of the Stations of the Cross, we invite you to participate in a journey of reflection and discovery in the city of Oxford.

About the project

About the project

Inspired by the traditional Stations of the Cross, depicting the journey of Christ on the way to the crucifixion, this website and the accompanying Alight mobile app will help you experience the Biblical events, transposed in the ancient city of Oxford.

Weave your way around the city, where key works of art can be found – in both religious and secular spaces, from churches to museums, and even city rooftops, which will inspire you to reflect on each step of the way.

On this journey, you will be accompanied by leading academics, theologians and artists, contemplating the profound meaning of the Stations of the Cross. Each one of these reflections begins with a musical excerpt from ‘The Eight Words’, a jazz suite by Tim Boniface, which dwells on the eight sayings of Jesus in the passion according to St John.
