Jesus dies on the cross

 

Deposition Presented to the Ashmolean Museum of Art and Archaeology in 1869, this composition (oil on canvas) is a reworking of an earlier painting of 'The Deposition' by the Flemish artist, Anthony van Dyck (1599-1641). The earlier painting, now in the Alte Pinakothek, Munich), has been dated c.1615. This painting is generally dated c.1619 at about the time when he was working as an assistant to Rubens in Antwerp.
